Biography:

Hello. My name is Yuka Votaw, and I am serving as a Senior Regional Officer for the Illinois Region. I completed my term as the Northern District Vice President last year and was a finalist at the International Convention in Seattle for the position of District III International Vice President. I am very thrilled to continue my involvement in Phi Theta Kappa this year.

I currently study at College of DuPage majoring in Finance and Statistics. My educational goal is to proceed to law school, specializing in international business. Along with my educational experience at Japanese Law School, I am hoping to serve as a liaison between the United States and my home country, Japan. And maybe later, I am hoping to serve the community as a judge.

Great leaders I admire are Abraham Lincoln for his strong determination and Judge Judy for her strict assertiveness.

When I am not in school, I am a mother of a 14 month-old girl. Motherhood is a constant challenge, but my involvement in Phi Theta Kappa and other community services gives me good opportunities for building my own identity and having a break. My hobbies are sailing and golf. I am very slow in any other sport and I don't sing well.

For this academic year, I will be serving as a mentor and a resource person to the 2011-2012 Illinois Regional Officer Team. Illinois is such a wonderful Phi Theta Kappa Region to belong to, and I hope I can serve to help every member to enjoy their time in Phi Theta Kappa and take advantage of its many opportunities.
